Becca Schack, a graduate of The Juilliard School, is an LA-based composer/producer who records and performs as solo electronic artist “BECA.” Creating music that straddles both contemporary and cinematic worlds, she applies conservatory training to modern pop sensibility, breaking tradition and bursting into spellbinding sounds.
Becca started winning public recognition for her compositions at age eleven at ASCAP's Young Composers competitions. While studying with avant-garde downtown composer Elliott Sharp and attending The Dartington Music Festival in Devon, England on scholarship, she started forging her own path toward electronic music — melding electro-acoustic elements and vocals with classical instrumentation. She has received commissions to write for various types of ensembles including women’s choir, symphonic band, and the ballet, and has worked with members of the New York Philharmonic to perform her piece Liberators.
As a solo artist, the NYC to LA transplant is known for her sensual emotive pop, dreamy synths, and ethereal vocals created for the dance floor. Releases include two EPs via UK label This Is Music Ltd (Survive, Simian Mobile Disco), Ecliptic LP, and her most recent In Deep Love EP. Collaborations have included notable indie dance and disco funk producers Morgan Wiley of Midnight Magic, Blake Robin aka Luxxury, and more.
A number of Becca’s songs have been licensed to television, including Ice Cream that aired on UK hit series Made in Chelsea, and 2 Sapphires on Lifetime’s Dance Moms, which garnered over two million views online. She wrote, performed, and produced her song Who’s Checking Out Who for a Boots 17 Makeup commercial in collaboration with Partizan, Mother, and Red UK which went viral in its first launch week. Other tracks of hers have been licensed to shows such as Bones and One LifeTo Live.
Becca’s concerts have spanned the US, Europe, and Mexico, including music festivals SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, CMJ in NY, Miami Fashion Week, NYC Gay Pride, POP Montreal, NXNE in Toronto. Over 50 radio stations have aired her music including NPR’s The Essentials and LA’s famed KCRW, and she has been featured in numerous press outlets including Consequence of Sound, Flaunt, Galore Mag, The Deli, and Stereogum. Her songs have made her a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, International Songwriting Contest, and have hit the Top 100 on Beatport and radio charts.
